LOS ANGELES – The Good Place has the kind of cult following you would not expect for a comedy set in the afterlife and tackling some of the biggest issues in ethics and philosophy – the sort where fans gleefully quote catchphrases and trade memes online.

Indeed, the unlikely success of the show – which hired a philosophy professor to vet its ideas – surprised even its creator Mike Schur along with stars Kristen Bell and Ted Danson.
