SINGAPORE – Pioneer fashion designer Esther Tay may be a household name within the local fashion industry, but the dressmaking diploma she graduated with in 1971 had not been her first choice.

Instead, the Institue of Technical Education (ITE) alum, who has made her name as both a fashion and uniform designer, had hoped to enrol in the school’s widely popular graphic design course.
