SINGAPORE – British author David Nicholls has written many romances, but his fifth novel Sweet Sorrow is his first shot at first love.

“I wanted to write something warm and tender about teenage boys,” he says over the telephone from London. “Instead of portraying them as hormonal monsters, I wanted to write something quite tender about what it’s like to be that age – for both boys and girls.”
