SINGAPORE – Civil servant Chua Jia Ying, 28, whose son is almost five months old, used cloth paddings that completely covered the four sides of her son’s cot, thinking that this will keep the baby safe.

When she read that the paddings could potentially suffocate an infant if the baby presses his face into it, Ms Chua wasted no time in replacing them with individual wraps for the crib slats.
