I just spent a month in residence at Peking University in Beijing, meeting dozens of government officials, entrepreneurs, scholars, think-tankers and students. Here’s what I’ve concluded: The United States is losing the ideological battle with China.

America’s military, economic and ideological competition with the People’s Republic of China will be a long one, and hopefully will be a contest in which both sides can achieve win-win outcomes while also managing zero-sum outcomes peacefully. But in the short run, especially during the Trump era, the US has fallen behind in the competition of ideas.
